Sandy Webster is a mixed media artist from North Carolina. In addition to her studio work, Sandy Webster has written articles and served as a juror of fiber-related exhibitions while teaching and exhibiting internationally.
Sandy Webster’s works have been shown throughout the US and internationally. She has been published in Fiberarts Design Books 1V, V, VI; several Lark Publications as well as Handwoven, Shuttle, Spindle & Dyepot, and Textile Fibre Forum. Sandy has taught, lectured and juried throughout the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Her two week stay in Paducah will include a three day workshop entitled “Exploration with Materials: An Adventure in Creativity”. The workshop will begin with a talk to the public on Thursday, August 12, followed by three days in the studio. There will be an exhibition of completed works on Sunday, August 15th from 5-7 pm.
Time not spent preparing for and giving the workshop will be used to work on her own projects of writing, relief printing and creating materials for future works.
Workshop Title: Exploration with Materials: An Adventure in Creativity
Students will experience various techniques for making marks on cloth and paper including the following:
- Making pigments from gathered soils (clays)
- Gelatin printmaking
- Chemical and object rusting of fabric and paper
- Uses of graphite and shellac combinations
- A variety of transfer techniques
- Altering surfaces of printed matter
- Making a book to house all samples
The cost of the workshop will be $175 per person. There is a limit of 10 students.
Sandy will supply all necessary equipment and tools, chemicals, some clays, metal objects for rusting, small gelatin plates, an assortment of papers, cloth, threads, glues, pastes, gum arabic for making watercolors, etc. The materials fee for this will be $25.
