MAKE, in conjunction with the Paducah ArtsvAlliance, will reveal the recently completed mural by PAA’s March artist-in-residence Vlada Soshkina on Saturday, April 2 with a reception from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Soshkina, who was born in the Ukraine, is a book illustrator with a Masters Degree in Fine Art. She is the co-founder of Red Wooden Flag, a multi-disciplinary studio that focuses on illustration and book design. Soshkina recently returned from a visit to her home country to oversee the printing of “Soldier,” a beautiful children’s book featuring her illustrations.
In addition to revealing the completed mural, MAKE will also have copies of Soshkina’s newly illustrated children’s book, “Soldier,” available to be purchased and signed. MAKE is excited to be the location of the first release of this new book, with Brooklyn, New York being the location of the second release.
A book reading of “Soldier,” for families and children of all ages, will begin at 10:30 a.m. in front of the mural (in case of inclement weather, the reading will be held inside MAKE). Children are then welcome to create free salt dough porcupines (inspired by the main character in “Soldier”) and bookmarks to take home with them as a memento from this special event. Light refreshments will also be provided.
MAKE is located at 628 Broadway and is regularly open Wednesday – Friday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. For more information, visit their website.
